Tempest Mk.V "HI-TECH"

1/32 Tempest Mk.V "HI-TECH"

The Hawker Tempest was a British fighter aircraft primarily used by the Royal Air Force (RAF) in the Second World War. The Tempest was an improved derivative of the Hawker Typhoon, the type originally being known as the Typhoon II, which was intended to address the Typhoon's unexpected fall-off of performance at high altitude by replacing its wing with a thinner laminar flow design. Having diverged considerably from the Typhoon, it was chosen to rename the aircraft Tempest. The Tempest emerged as one of the most powerful fighters of World War II and was the fastest single-engine propeller-driven aircraft of the war at low altitude. The propeller-driven Dornier 335 was even faster, but it had two engines.

The box positively gives an idea about the content , but reality is even better .
I really can not believe that with these money I got so many things !
Let's start with the kit's inventory and then we will examine better :
҉   326 styrene parts for the main kit
҉   16 clear parts (canopy,lights etc)
҉   32 photo etched parts
҉   12 fabric parts (seat belts)
҉   76 resin parts (mainly for engine, wheels and more)
Special Hobby comes fast as one of the most advanced manufacturer , which offers some of the more detailed models , competing equally among the top Japanese companies in the field and having left behind others like Eduard .

This kit is a good proof for this , offering some details that we can meet , eg in the 1/24 Airfix Typhoon !
Moulding is in very good level , with just a very few flush on some parts that needs a small cleaning with knife or sandpapper.
No scratches , “wavy” plastic , bubbles , broken or “free” parts on the bag are present .
Fitting is above average and the surface texture and amount of details like rivets & panels will satisfy even the most awkward modeller .

The real feast begins when the box with the resins is opened and some really unique parts comes out .The big (really big !) gem is the engine offcourse .  Doing very smart , Special Hobby provides a small replica of the famous Sabre Nappier almost in one piece (main engine body and most of small details like spark plug wires) ready ready to get stuck on the nose .

Before this we have to deal with a fantastic cockpit which on this scale seems almost inconceivable to have so much detail within it .
SH provides for this area full tubing frame , inner fuselage , ALL (yes , all) the side panels with levels , switches , knobs , fuses , trim wheels , boxes , instruments etc most of them in separate parts , (possitionable) joystic in 8 (!) parts , back shielding , cokpit floor , rudder pedals , instrument panel in three parts with separate gunsight on his own frame (separate too) , fabric made , full possitionable seat belts , very realistic 3D radiator under the engine with possitionable shutter , a firewall behind the engine , and the main engine offcourse .

Adding all the provided parts on this resin masterpiece , the result is beyond every expectation and nothing more is needed  except a good painting and some carefully weathering for the ultimate-in-scale Nappier .
The good news continues on the lower wing with the very realistic wheels well , coming in six main parts followed by a lot of smallest .

Control surfaces of the tail are possitionable , unlike the wings in a strange way .
Final stages of building are the placement of the lights , main landing legs with resin wheels that mimic the existence of weight , wheel well doors , tail wheel (resin too) , the wind shield with the gunsight on , external loads like fuel tanks , bombs and rockets .

One thing before I forget : in the inventory , is also a sheet with painting masks for the clear parts and for the wheels , so all the paintings for those parts are easy to do .

Paint schemes provided are five , most of them (4) with dark green and grey camo on grey lower surfaces and one in metal finish .
Decal sheets are very thin , without  unnecessary  decal film around every decal , even the smallest , right registered , in right colours , provides all the roundels , numbers , personal decorations and stenciling for the provided airplanes and are printed by … Eduard !

Competitors and colaborators as well at the same time , I like it !Finally , some words for the instructions booklet : comes in a glossy , A4 sized style and explains evry step very detailed using color on some parts making clear what must paint with what color , direction arrows and color keys for Gunze and Alclad II .

Following carefully , it is impossible to make any wrong .One more point for SH here . In some words , what’s finally provides this kit ?
҉   Fine moulding plastic parts
҉   Fine , thin clear parts
҉   Alot of perfect resin parts
҉   Fantastic engine
҉   Very realistic landing system
҉   Perfect cockpit (!)
҉   Beautifull surface details
҉   Above average fitting
҉   Excellent decals sheet
҉   Painting masks
҉   Fabric seat belts
҉   Five painting options / decorations
҉   Flexible external loading options
҉   Really good price

Special Hobby managed with one move to take the lead . If he continues working seriously , leaving behind past fouls , may stay there .
Giving  a multimedia (“High tech” for Special Hobby) boost to the Tempest Mk.V including resin parts , photo etched , fabric , paint masking set and many decals for  less than 30.00€ , and the same time keeping the price of the kit low (73.30€) makes the competition to feel uncomfortable .
This kit is a really bargain , not just for his price , but for his content .It’s a really sin if you lose it .
Very recommented for advanced modellers !
Thanks to SpecialHobby for the provided sample .
